Dale Sumbler

01 Triage Manager, Digital Creation teams · Perforce
02 AI LC Champion · Perforce

Building internal tools, agent infrastructure, and the occasional side project from a home lab in Hampshire, UK.

What I do

I lead triage across Perforce's Digital Creation teams — the group behind P4 Server, the EngTools suite, and the integrations work that keeps a lot of game studios shipping. Day to day that's unblocking engineers, shaping how issues flow, and making sure the right things get prioritised.

As an AI LC Champion I spend a portion of my time exploring how AI agents and LLMs fit into real engineering workflows — both inside Perforce and in the tools I build for myself at home.

  • Based in Hampshire, UK
  • Education BSc Computer Science, 2011
  • Currently Perforce + side projects

Where I've been

Twelve-plus years at Perforce, working up from the support floor into engineering leadership. I still write code — just less of it than I used to.

Triage Manager, Digital Creation teams current
2024 — present
Perforce
Leading triage across P4 Server, EngTools, and the integrations groups. Owning how issues flow into engineering, prioritisation, and the day-to-day unblocking that keeps the teams shipping.
AI LC Champion side role
2026 — present
Perforce
Exploring how AI agents and LLMs slot into real engineering work — both internal tooling and the products we ship. Mostly applied: prototypes, internal demos, the occasional open-source experiment.
Dev Lead, P4 Code Review (Swarm)
2018 — 2024
Perforce
Ran the engineering team behind P4 Swarm, the code review layer on top of Helix Core. Grew the team, shipped Swarm 2, and got to work closely with some of the largest game and VFX studios in the world.
Software Engineer, Swarm
2015 — 2018
Perforce
Engineer on Swarm from the early days. PHP and front-end work, integrations with Jenkins and other CI tools, and a lot of conversations with customers about what code review should look like inside a studio.
Technical Support Engineer
2011 — 2015
Perforce
Started in support straight out of university. Learned Helix Core from the inside out, worked every major incident playbook, and decided I'd rather be on the building side of things.
